Jim Schaefer - Glover's Reef Paintings

These paintings were inspired by a 2001 trip to Glover's Reef Atoll Resort. Glover's Reef is a relatively pristine reef a good distance off the shore of Belize. The island we stayed on was small, about 70 acres. We stayed in thatched huts on the beach. I took a lot of underwater photos, and did paintings from some of them. I had no intention of painting the palms, but when I looked over the photos, I saw the potential. They lent themselves to compositional affects and a light watercolor touch.
